The history of Super Smash Bros.

Around 1998 Satoru Iwata and Masahiro Sakurai worked on a game project in their spare time by the name of Kakuto-Geemu Ryouh (Dragon King: The Fighting Game). It was a 2D fighting game with a twist. Instead of fighting two on two, this game was a 4-player game, giving you the possibility to duke it out with three friends. However, because it was hard to give each fighter a distinct look and feel, Masahiro Sakurai decided on a different approach, and thus Dragon King became the prototype of one of the most popular gaming franchises in the history of Nintendo.

It really does look familiar.

Super Smash Bros. was released in 1999 on the Nintendo 64, featuring twelve video game characters coming from ten different games, either from first or second party developers. It became a smash hit, and in 2001 the sequel, Super Smash Bros. Melee was released on the Nintendo GameCube. Finally, in 2007, Super Smash Bros. Brawl was released on the Wii.

All Super Smash Bros. games released so far.

It seems as if a lot has changed in all those years, and yet, it still stays true to its roots. It's one of those games where story isn't really that important, as long as you're having fun with the game.

Every Super Smash Bros. fan has been fantasizing about their own Super Smash Bros. game, about the new elements in the game, or the new characters that might be in, or even the stages and music.

This page is dedicated to creating ideas for a next Super Smash Bros. game, using various resources, like renders or sketches, to show the vision of how the next Super Smash Bros. game could be. It takes ideas from various sources over the internet, and tries to make an as good as possible representation.

It will be an ongoing project, even when a new Super Smash Bros. gets announced or released. There will be a lot of ideas on this page, so who knows, maybe we will see stuff happening in the the next Super Smash Bros.
